Milestones in U. S. Naval Aviation
This section provides a year-at-a-glance summary of events related to U. S. naval aviation.
Two types of events are listed.
The first, in the Ships & Aircraft column, are actions directly involving carriers and carrier-based aircraft. For ships, these are launches, commissionings, losses and so forth. For aircraft, these include items such as test flights, entry into squadron service and retirements.
The second, Events, involves administrative, political and combat actions. Administrative and political actions, marked by the quill pen symbol (), include things such as treaties, laws, declarations of war, fleet reorganisations and authorisations for carrier/aircraft construction and procurement. Combat actions () are battles, campaigns and invasions. Other events of significance may be marked by an appropriate event symbol. National flags will indicate the countries involved.
This section is separated into several pages, each corresponding with a specific time period, as used elsewhere on the site.
