Subject: Braddock's defeat
To: shgiles@efn.org
Hi Stan,
Excuse me if I've written you before, but I've only been keeping an address book about 6 weeks and I didn't have you in it. I did have Stan Giles Genealogy Page
book-marked. I think I did not email you because you did not include 1755 dates. What I'm looking for is a GILES who was killed at Braddock's defeat.
Elizabeth GILES married Henry WHITE and is my gg grandmother.
"Biographical and Portrait CYCLOPEDIA of Fayette County Pennsylvania" says that Samuel Samuel GILES is Elizabeth's father and was born in 1766 It also states that his father was killed at Baddock's defeat. Since Braddock's defeat was in 1755 Samuel was born 11 years after his father's death.
"Biographical and Portrait CYCLOPEDIA of Fayette County Pennsylvania" says that Samuel came to Fayette county in 1814 and married Dorotha Day. Samuel came to Fayette county and married Dorotha twelve years after the birth of his daughter Elizabeth, my gg grandmother. Elizabeth was born in 1802. (98
year old "Dolly Jiles" appears on the 1860 census living with 58 year old Elizabeth GILES WHITE.).
I have little hard fact to work with but since the Americans killed at
Braddock's defeat were Virginians I think you are worth a shot.
Best wishes,
Frank McGrath
