Lemuel Autry

Born South Carolina
moved to Salem, Tippan County, MS. in 1839. He farmed and later opened
a store at Salem along with teaching singing. He bought 80 acres, South
of his fathers farm in 1842 and paid his father $30.00 a year for 10 years
. In 1848 he bought another parcel of land for $50.00 a year for six years.
His father Jacob died in 1852 and the other children signed a deed of conveying
the 160 acres for $600.00 to him on October 30, 1852. He left MS. in 1858
and settled in Conway County, AR. near Plummer Ville.
Lemuel was killed by Northern Bushwhackers May 16, 1864 while plowing
his fields. Later reports indicated he had been mistaken for another person.
The 1860 Census listed his occupation as Blacksmith.
