THIS COUPLE HAD FOUR CHILDREN TWO BOYS AND TWO GIRLS
Lawson C. Brown served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
He took his Basic Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Then shipped out
to Korea, to the First Calvary Division 5th. Calvary Regiment Co. E,
where he earned the Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal With
3/Bronze Service Stars, and United Nations Service Medal. Then the
First Calvary Division returned to Japan on the Island of Hokiddo,
where he was given Air Transport Ability Training, Ski and Snowshoe
Training and Amphibious Training. He then was transfered into Hq. &
Hq. Co. of the 5th Calvary Regt. and trained as a sound range
specialist. This service earned him the Army of Occupation Medal
(Japan). He was Honorably Discharged from service. He came home ,
married, and worked for Willy-Willis Furniture Mart one year, H. C.
Hardin Mobil Service Station two years, And the Texas Highway
Department 30 years and retired at 55 years of age. Then worked for
B. C. Construction Co. part time 3 years.Graduated from Cross Plains High School in 1948, Cisco Jr. College in
1955, and Hardin-Simmons University in 1960.
Melvin Carroll Brown served in the U. S. Army from January 1963 until
January 1966. Stationed at Fort Polk La., Fort Gordon, Ga. Ui Jong
Bu, Korea, Fort Bliss Texas, and Saigon, Vi et Nam. Discharged with an
Honorable Discharge with a Good Conduct Medal and Viet Nam Service
Metal. Fortunately he did not see any active fighting, but did come
under one sniper attack during his Viet Nam service.Melvin retired on Fe. 28, 1999 after almost 33 years. He began with
Collins Radio Company in 1966. The Company was sold to Rockwell
International in the 1970's and was later sold to Alcatel Network
Systems.
Melvin met Paula on the 18th day of February 1966 and married her on March 1966. It was a short courtship but lasting one. she lived with her Aunt Georgia Lou and Uncle Creigton Johnson after graduation.
Thomas Owen graduated from high school in May 1989 in Van Alstyne,
Grayson County, Texas. Attended college at Grayson County Junior
College in Sherman, Texas, and Collin County Junior College in
McKinney, Texas. He became a state certified Emergency Medical
Technician in August of 1991 and a State certified Paramedic in the
State of Texas as of May 1994. He also became a state certified
Firefighter in the State of Texas in Sept. 2000.

The family moved to Illinois near Springfield. His family lived there until 1847, when they started tier trip to Texas . They crossed the Red River into Texas, on January 01 1847.
The family located in Fayette, Co. About 3 miles from Round Top, Texas, His father was a farmer.
William Charles married Jane A Moore April 28, 1953. They were married in Fayette Co. Texas.
Jane was mother to Charles born June 18, 1854 Charles died May 16, 1937
Jane died when she was 20 years old. Jane is buried in LaGrange City Cemetery. On her tombstone it states she was born March 03, 1835 in Iredell, North Carolina. She died May 21, 1855
She is buried with her parents, Jeremiah Moore, born Oct o3, 1805 AD ., died March 04, 1855. Stone states He came to Fayette Co. TX. AD 1850 Her mother, Mildrede, born September 22, 1806, in Iredell Co, North Carolina.
There are several of her sisters and brothers buried in that cemetery. There are quite a few Moores in the LaGrange City Cemetery. A Moore is listed on the Cemetery Board. The town has so many Moores listed in Tax rolls, Census, and Cemetery listing.
Records show in 1860, William Charles and others started a Primitive Baptist Church, at Bastrop
on the River banks south of town. He was a Primitive Baptist Preacher
In 1860 William Charles married Margaret ( Moore) ?,Maybe Jane A Moore sister. Margaret was mother of Nancy born in 1858
.Margaret died sometime between 1858 and the time he married Lucendia Paralee Haynes on May 03, 1863. in Washington Co. He is on the 1886 to 1870 Tax Rolls. He had 320 acres of land at this time.
Lucendia was the mother to William Madison, born 1866 in Lee Co., and Benjamin born 1869 in Washington Co. Texas.
In March 1871, William Charles help start a church called Union Church, it was a Primitive Baptist Church. this was at Waddleton Prairie, In Bastrop County The church was dissolved March 1905
In the Washington County Census, a M. I. Purcell age 38 female born Georgia, Some have her listed as William Charles sister, but the dates just won't fit.. He was a Primitive Baptist Preacher. On March 09, 1889, hePreached at a church in the Mountain Community east of Gatesville, Texas,on the same tract of land as the old Mountain School House was on He preached here until his death in 1896. Services have been held regularly on the same grounds since that time.
On the second Sunday of March 1964 (the 75 th year university of the church) a tornado blew away the Church. Another building was built to replace this church. The new building was complete by August of the same year.
There are courthouse records shows William Charles was the pastor, performing marriages rites.
The first record of his performing a marriage for a couple was in 1873, the couple was George W. Haynes (maybe Lucendia Paralee Haynes, W. C 's third wife kin?). to Louisa C. Hobbs,
He also married a W. I. Eaton to Nancy Purcell ?
The Nancy Ann Johnson , ( Who was married to Squire Eaton, who died). She was then married to W. C. son, William Madison Purcell.
On March 13, 1875 , William Charles sold 160 acres of land, with wife, Lucendia Paralee
to E.B. Bidwell, this was on Shoal Creek., which is in Hayes Co. Texas
We have been unable to find any trace of Lucendia Paralee Haynes Purcell after she sold the land with W. C.
He married Nancy Caroline Chambliss /Chambers. Reaves ,Ard, White on June 19, 1881 in Coryell Co., Texas.
W. C. was listed on the Coryell Co., Texas, Tax Rolls for these years: 1878 --1881, 1882, 1883,1884, 1885, 1886--1889, 1890, 1891, 1892-, 1894, 1895, and 1895. William Charles Purcell died April 26, 1896 in Coryell Co, Texas
William Charles is buried in the Coffee Cemetery near Gatesville, Texas. After His death Nancy C.
Purcell was on the Tax Rolls, for the years 1896, 1897, 1898, and 1899. On the papers where she
sold the place, She had the papers sent to Hamilton. Texas.
Nancy then married a man named Bray and she died in Scurry county, Snyder, Texas on October 16, 1921.

Benjamin and family lived in Illinois until 1846 and in the fall of that year started to to to Texas, crossing Red River January 01, 1847. They located in Fayette Co. Texas, where Benjamin died in 1867just out of Round Top, Texas in Fayette County. He is burried on the farm that was once his.
He is buried with his Father-in-law Benjamin Smalley and Mother-in-law Mary Liggitt Smalley.
Mary died in 1890 in Burnet Co., TX, she lived there with son Daniel and wife Mary.
Benjamin was a farmer by trade, raised cattle and prospered. He was quite and reserved, a member of the Primitive Baptist Church and was a very religious man The Vermillion Co., IL History page 807 says: Middle Fork Baptist
Church organized in 1834 by Elder Freeman Smalley and 20 members. Freeman, James Smalley, Benjamin Purcell and wives and others organized the church. The church lasted until 1864 when war caused a division.

R. Purcell be my executors to settle up my estate after the death of me and my wife, Mary Purcell

Purcell were left as executors thereof and that be permitted to record in said county and state and all necessary orders in the case of P. R. Purcell

R. Purcell and B.S. Purcell upon their giving Bond and qualifying as the law directs.Estate of Benjamin Purcell decd:
Whereas P.R. and B. S. Purcell were this day appointed Executors of the Last Will and Testament of Benjamin Purcell deed and who now refuse to give bond as well. It is therefore ordered that the
Decree appointing them Executors as aforesaid be annulled and set aside.
