Starr County, Rio Grande City

Starr County Courthouse 2010 So, the whole point of the trip was to cross at Roma and head to Mier, Mexico to visit the museum of the Mier Expedition. Since Hill forgot his passport we jetted straight through Roma and kept on going to Rio Grande City. Zooming though downtown we found the courthouse rather quickly. Constructed as part of the Works Projects Administration, this active courthouse was completed in 1939.
Church of the Immaculate Conception Across the street from the courthouse is the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Outside the church is a garden outlined with the Stations of the Cross. Hill, a Methodist, commented on the cute little birdhouses.

Grotto After serving in churches across the state (including Castroville), Rev. Gustav Gollbach served here and completed this grotto resembling the shrine of Lourdes in Southern France. It was completed in April, 1928.
