Colorado County, Columbus
Again, it was raining and there were a lot of trees blocking the view. I braved the elements and tried as much as I could to get a picture of the entire courthouse. It didn't turn out so well.
But I did get this picture by standing under the tree canopy. It's an impressive building.
There is also a marker for M. Williamson, known as “Three-Legged Willie.” He had good leg, crippled leg, and wooden leg. I'll have to do some more research on this one.
This tower is in the back corner of the courthouse square. Unlike other courthouses, there was a lot of traffic around this one. Appears there was some big suit and tie event going on nearby. Possibly an opera at the Stafford Bank pictured below. Therefore I couldn't get a picture of the tower without cars in front of it.
Built in 1886 by a millionaire cattleman, this building started as a bank and later became the town opera house. We didn't go inside because there was something going on, but the marker states there are gas-burning chandeliers and an elaborate hand-painted curtain inside. Those performing here included Lillian Russell and magician Harry Houdini.
Probably the first thing you notice about this building is the same thing that caught my eye. Yes, the awning is tilted and I'm pretty sure they ment it to be. Odd, but cool.
The Courthouse and Me
I'd like to take this time to give a little slack to the photographer. It was on the cusp of pouring down rain at this point. We wanted to get the picutre and get to a dry place.
