Caldwell County, Lockhart
June 12, 2008. 10:00am. This trip started off as a three-hour tour. Yes, a three-hour tour down to Gonzales to take pictures of house markers in front of historic houses for the Heritage Assn. of San Marcos. My friend Rodney was given this task and he another friend, Hill, were going to make this quick trip. As I am being forced to take vacation time (I have too much and don't want to lose it) they took me along with them. Three hours turned to eight and two courthouses turned into five. Things always take longer. This is pretty typical of me.

Dr. Eugene Clark Library
Located in a block off of the courthouse square in Lockhart, the Dr. Eugene Clark Library is the oldest continually operating library in the State of Texas and the first city library built in the state. The Masonic Lodge next door has been joined to it and we took a quick tour. One of the best things about these trips is taking these not-so-quick detours and learning more about the state we live in.
This was a great picture. Ronda is a good friend of ours and Hill and Rodney wanted to take a peek inside her Lockhart office. Shortly after they walked away a TV crew member covering something at the Justice Center quickly followed to check out what they were looking at. If Ronda made the 5 o'clock news she owes it to those two.
As a side note, Ronda invited some of her friends over the following Saturday for The 36th Annual Chisholm Trail Roundup Parade. Ronda has a great house in Lockhart and we sat on the front porch, bloody mary in hand, and watched the 130+ entry parade. I had a great time, but I had to laugh a bit. In San Marcos, if you get 30 entries in a parade it's considered a success. For Lockhart's Chisholm Trail Parade, 130 entries was small. They normally have somewhere around 200.
