After doing essentially nothing beyond painting since moving in, I finally got up the nerve to replace the roof, which was by that time rather overdue. I opted for metal in hopes of not having to do it again. I also like the recyclability and the reflectivity, and it should keep the rainwater tank cleaner not having all that grit coming off. And I think it looks good.

First, I had to have some carpentry done--both porches were in pretty sad shape, and I had to have fascia installed in order to add gutters.

That is not my cat. I call him Squeak. He supervised while I painted the fascia. Sometimes a little too closely.

Then the old roof came off.

The roofers put in a long day and had the underlayment on before they left, although they wound up having to replace a lot of decking.

Day 2. A couple of the vents had to be moved a bit so as not to land on the ridges, so things went kind of slowly.

The yard looked like this.

Finally, after three long days, the roof was finished.

Here it is from the back.

I am still working on trim painting, and on replacing the kitchen range vent hood, but the roof is done and got rained on pretty heavily today and seems to be working. Gutters and rainwater collection tank coming soon.
