Saturday, October 11, we moved the cows from across
the lane to the home place. The plan is to finish moving them back to the
Jess Cox place next weekend. Having several new mothers and calves made the
transport difficult. We ended up leaving one cow and calf across the lane. |

I have had
to mend fence each time that I have fed. The fences on the Jess Cox place are
very brittle and really need to be replaced. I have asked my principal to
allow me to miss one day every other week in the spring to build fences. He
said that as long as my classes did not suffer it would be fine. |

Last count
there are fourteen new calves with the Florida cows. We had counted two
calves at the Adair place, but one is missing. I haven’t had time to search
for it. Marching contest is the 22nd, so I plan on looking on the
25th. |

A roundhouse
discussion was held with one member absent. Many decisions were made for the
entity. A decision
to sell all of the cattle as a combined herd before winter. A decision to be
patient and purchase yearlings in late December or early January in order to
develop a yearling business instead of maintaining cows and selling calves
annually. |

Discussion
of selling the house on Trinity and improving the office on Ellis as a
memorial for community members to fondly remember our aunt. Discussion
of the property known as Dooley Bottom. |

Consideration
of the houses at the Adair place and the Walton place. Use of current ranch
equipment and storage. |

Recent
discussion regarding Florida cows. Since their calf crop was on the ground
when we purchased them in December, they would probably produce the next crop
in late October or November. Having a calf on the ground would increase their
value and provide a deeper base for the anticipated calf purchase in January. |

Went to
Groesbeck September 6, 2008 with the intention to cube the cattle. Knowing
that the move used most of the cubes, I planned on arriving early enough to
refill the feeder. Unfortunately, M and M have changed their hours and they
now close at noon on Saturdays. I will have to come Monday and get feed. Gan
Gan encouraged us to check the cows anyway. There are currently nineteen
cows, two bulls and two new calves at the Jess Cox place. Twenty-three cows
and one new calf at the place across the lane. No new calves at the Home
place and one new calf at the Adair place. |
