Cpl. Abel Marquez The Odessa Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance call Saturday night September 8th. Cpl Arlie Jones, 48, and Cpl. Scott Gardner, 30, were virtually ambushed in a backyard by the husband of a female who called 911 to report she had been beaten. Both officers were shot to death with what Texas Rangers now believe to be a shotgun. Both were shot in the head and died at the scene. Cpl. Abel Marquez was critically wounded, taken to Medical Center Hospital and later flown to University Medical Center in Lubbock. He remained on life support until he died shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday. These officers gave their life to protect a stranger. Our 2008 N.A.M.B.A. District 7 race in Andrews, Texas will be April 26-27 at Roy Bennett-City Lake Park. Andrews is located about 30 miles north of Odessa on US-385. We usually practice there on Sundays after noon (weather permitting).
Coffee and pastries will be served both race days.
