Heart of Texas Chapter - Meetings
MeetingsInvitation
The members of the Heart of Texas Chapter extend a cordial invitation to interested individuals to come to the meetings. All meetings are conducted in English, but as in any German gathering, one is likely to hear a few renditions of "Guten Abend" or "Wie Geht's" or "Sehr Gut" or "Auf Wiedersehen!"
Refreshments are served at the conclusion of each meeting, followed by visiting and fellowship among members and guests.
Meetings are held at 7 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month except July and November. While most meetings are held in Waco, others are held in nearby cities.
Two or more meetings each year include a pot-luck meal featuring old-time German foods made from recipes brought to this country by our immigrant ancestors.
The Heart of Texas Chapter is very fortunate to have energetic and enthusiastic members working with programs. While some programs are genealogy-related, others deal with ethnic customs, language, music, and current events.
There is a program of some sort at every chapter meeting with other group activities planned in accordance with chapter members’ desires.
In the past, chapter members have participated in group outings to area German restaurants and bus tours to various events.
Each year in October, the chapter sponsors an Oktoberfest celebration at the Crawford Community Center in Crawford, Texas. These events, along with the state convention that the chapter recently hosted, have been highly successful and have provided funds for service projects such as buying much-needed educational materials for area high school German teachers and supporting the regional history fair.
