Dear Friends of the Chiapas Solidarity Project
Happily, many of you were able to attend our public presentation, recently held at the Fourth National Conference of the Radical Philosophy Association on 3 November 2000. At that event, we showed slides of the first pharmacy and of the consultation salon where the indigenous Promoters of Health from each of the 58 communities meet to discuss health care needs and to educate the communities about health matters. This first pharmacy, the consultation salon, and the second pharmacy (located in another village) were all successfully built last year with the funds donated by you to the CSP. All three are situated in the Autonomous Municipality of San Pedro de Michoacan, Chiapas, Mexico, and realize a key part of the Municipal Council's plan to build three pharmacies for distribution of medicine into the 58 communities of that region. We also had the unique opportunity to show a video clip documenting the larger health project of the Autonomous Municipality, which includes building a hospital and meeting dental care needs. That video recorded a class about pregnancy and the birthing process given to the Promoters of Health at the newly constructed and now walled salon. This still unfinished video, produced by indigenous video-makers in conjunction with the Chiapas Media Project, was mailed to us for a one-time showing at the November conference as testimony to the importance of the health care project that the CSP is supporting.
Warm thanks to everyone who has been supporting the Chiapas Solidarity Project in its work, Patricia Huntington & Martin Beck Matustik _________________________________________________________________________________________________
