September 15, 2006 - LHD 8 in dry dock closing in on Launch. Walls of Drydock are replaced and MAKIN ISLAND undergoes final pre-launch preparations. On September 22, while sitting in the drydock, MAKIN ISLAND was pulled out into the Pascagoula Bay and launched.
